**** Introduction ****
Hello and may I welcome you to part one in a series of eight extra special
editions of dnews dedicated entirely to the latest Delirious? single, "It’s
OK." As we know, it’s more than OK; this is a "late 90’s classic that heads
straight for the heart" and has been tipped by some industry suits to be
"something special" as the song is "beautiful." This is going to be
something special; and make sure you’re in on the act by popping down to
your local High Street music store and grabbing yourself a copy of the two
CDs. What’s that? You live in the US? You can either petition Sparrow
Records to release quality delirious? merchandise like this to the States or
try and order on-line from sites like http://www.hmv.co.uk or
http://www.virgin.co.uk. Done with the hassle that is the introduction, onto
the fun parts!

**** Thatch’s Facts ****
Securing a Spurious? exclusive, this series of dnews will give you the
definitive word from the horse’s mouth (no offence to Jon intended) about
"It’s OK." Ever wondered what type of car "It’s OK" would be if it was one?
Lost sleep pondering what animated film "It’s OK" should be the soundtrack
to? Well wonder no more! All will be revealed by Delirious? bassist Jon
Thatcher in "Thatch’s Facts" over the next eight editions. There are even
some sensible questions…

S?: What colour ink was the song written in?
JT: The lyrics were penned in black - a fine felt pen with a back and white
stripe barrel.

S?: Why "It's OK" and not "Bliss" as a single?
JT: We tried an "up" song in the form of Gravity, which was pulled after a
lack of airplay, so thought we’d try something different to show another
side.

~ Spurious? says: some startling facts there - and there are even more to
come!

**** Tony's Attempt At Anorakism ****
Tony Patoto, manager of delirious?, has his own anorak fact to hurl into the
blender:

Did you know that when Delirious? has played at some HMV's throughout the
country in the past they have been some of the best attended and the sales
of the singles/albums have rivalled the best? But did you know that the
record is only 1000 units of each format (ie 2 x CDs)? Do you think that we
can beat that one? It's down to the fans, but we all know that we have the
best fans in the world anyway!

**** Furious? Records Mailshot ****
+++Are You Ready?+++

With the release of the first Delirious? single in almost a year just around
the corner, excited just doesn’t begin to describe the vibe in the d:camp.
Blind faith? Not a bit of it; things are looking very, very promising. ‘It’s
OK’ is 100% primed and ready for a massive chart assault after its release
on February 21st and so far the industry response has been top notch. MTV
took one look at the video and bunged it straight on their playlist. X FM
gave it the maximum rotation possible [as well as getting the lads in for an
acoustic session]. VH-1 called them in for a couple of songs and an
interview. Slots are booked for appearances on the Big Breakfast, Videotech
as well as plenty of other juicy ones.

Press is warming up - with a few new doors opening - and right now, the sun
is well and truly shining. What can you do? Well, don’t forget to pass
d:vibe on and take advantage of a free gig and chance to chat with the band
at one of the HMV/Virgin in-store appearances and signings. There’s actually
a new addition to these signings; on 24 February the band will be playing at
London’s prestigious Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street. You can make sure
that you’re bang up to date by calling the Delirious? Hotline 0900 800 1000
or via www.delirious.co.uk . Let’s face facts; ‘It’s OK’ is real audio
dynamite, the soundtrack to something special, something perfect.

Let’s do it for King and country.

**** Top 10 Q & A ****
Although the following have already appeared in dnews, it seemed like a good
time to recap!

001: Why do you do singles?
~ Singles are simply a promotional tool for the band. Having hit singles is
both a fast and an effective means of reaching many people with your music -
something that's very important to us. The main thing is that it points
people to the album which tells the whole story.

002: Why have all your singles gone out of the charts quickly?
~ Unfortunately, up till now we have not had the radio and TV support we
would need for the single to remain in the Top 40 for longer periods of
time. Our chart position has solely come from the support of you guys that
buy the records - thanks

003: How do the charts work?
~ Chart positions are related solely to the number of singles sold in any
one week - and each week the chart starts completely from scratch again
regardless of the previous week's chart position. Therefore, the more
singles that are sold in the first week of release - the higher the single
will first chart.

004: Why should I buy a single if I already have the track on an album?
~ For the last 7 years we've been singing 'Open up the doors and let the
music play.....' Releasing singles is starting to do this and, the harder we
bang on the door, the more likely we are to be heard. Also, it gives fans a
great opportunity to get hold of other tracks previously unreleased - anyone
remember the 'Pursuit Of Happiness' track from the encore on the
Mezzamorphis Tour?

005: Why do you release 2 CDs?
~ Each CD sold counts towards the chart position. Two CDs are a standard
marketing tool - but we try our hardest to make both great value for money.

006: How many singles do you need to go top 20?
~ Every week is different - but on average about 15,000. For example with
'See The Star', only 8,000 people bought the single in Week 1 and from our
research nearly all of those bought both CDs. If, however, all 31,000
people who receive this mail-out buy both CDs then our next single would
almost certainly go top 5.

007: Aren't you just releasing singles to make money?
~ Most definitely not - each single we release loses tens of thousands of
pounds but it is an investment we want to make because this is where we
believe our music should be.

008: Why have Radio 1 not given you much airtime and does it matter anyway?
~ To many people in the music industry, Radio 1 is still the benchmark for
what music is, or should become, popular. Each week there are on average
200 singles released of which Radio 1 has to chose a handful for its
playlist. Therefore, the competition is tough but we are not to be deterred
from this - we're not backing down!

009: Should I e-mail or write to the TV and radio stations?
~ It helps there people to know three is a genuine following for the band -
but sometimes the use of 'religious' language which they may not understand
can create unnecessary walls.

010: What can we do to make a difference?
~ Buy both singles during the week of 21st February 2000 and encourage other
d:fans to do the same. Let's put the single in the Top 10 and not give
anyone the chance to ignore us this time.

**** d:end? ****
This is most definitely not d:end. Tomorrow thousands of Delirious? singles
will be weighing down shelves nationwide, with security guard poised to
ensure no-one is trampled in the rush to secure the most beautiful of songs,
and neither is it the s:end, for Spurious? is kicking into action with this
series of dnews’s to mark the progresson of the latest delirious? single.

Let’s do it.
