Radio 1****
Jonathon Millar says, "I thought you would be interested in the response
I
received from Radio 1 concerning them not playing christian bands such as
delirious?." What follows is an e-mail from Jeff Smith on Friday 26 November
1999:
> Dear Jonathan
> Thanks for your e-mail.
> We have played two of Delirious? records in the past, we didn't have the
> space to add the last one and we thought it a creditable if rather
> predictable and retrospective stab at a modern rock sound. We will listen
> for future releases and I note with interest the good reviews if rather
> average sales they've had in the USA. We do NOT judge them or anybody on
> their beliefs and I would also draw your attention to our play of the
> first two releases by US band Sixpence None The Richer whom I also
> understand share the Christian faith.
> We judge bands only on the appropriateness of the music to Radio 1's
> young audience who have an eclectic taste in music and I look forward to
> hearing more new exciting music by Delirious?
> Thank you for listening to Radio 1,
> Jeff Smith

A Delirious New Sound ****
Charisma Magazine, a US Christian Music publication, had the following
delirious? article in it:
"Their sound
is fresh. Their passion for God is raw and vulnerable. The
British band Delirious? is setting a new standard for worship in the future.
Throught their work there is an elevating rock anthem of dedication to
Jesus. Walking a precarious yet artful line between the energy of rock and
the passion of praise, Delirious? has a popular appeal that makes it one of
the hottest properties in worldwide Christian music. The U.K.'s main music
and culture magazine, Q, has heralded them as 'the hottest thing in
Christian rock' and described their faith as 'forceful rather than
force-fed'.
'We have letters
every week that say, 'you sung one line, a phrase, and I'd
been depressed for ages and contemplated suicided, but your words changed my
life',' Stewart Smith told Charisma. Their new experimental album,
Mezzamorphis,
which released in June, has been critically accepted, though criticized
somewhat
by fans who say it's too different from the first three Delirious? records.
Still, Martin Smith calls it a 'worship' album. Garrad defends the record
and told CM magazine that Delirious? creates songs that come 'from a place
of worship within us'.
Martin ends the
interview by saying, "We're all trying to walk the Christian
life as passionately as we know how, with as much integrity as we know how.
I think we're still that little worship band that we were seven years ago."
Spurious? would like to thank Natalie for this article!

Munganga asks, "I'm really interested about what's coming up for delirous?,
like if they have any predictions of when a new CD is coming out or if they
have reserved studio recording time or something."
Spurious? says:
Delirious? are setting no deadlines or dates for their new
album. Like Mezzamorphis, they are determined to take the time to get it
right. Currently they have studio time booked in January where the will be
recording a couple of tunes - the precise number is kept under wraps but is
expected to include "Show Me Heaven" premiered on the Post-Morphis
tour,
"Everything", the new track intended for the Gravity single release
and "In
Pursuit Of Happiness", if the last two haven't already been put to disc.
Spurious? will try and find out the precise number of tracks being recorded.
Delirious? are currently in negotiations for a mainstream, big-boy producer
to produce the new album. Of course, the It's OK singles out in February are
the current focus of the boys' attention, and after that....who knows?

Transcript ****
Chris Lindsay asks, "I was wondering if you are going to put a transcript
of
the Martin and Jon interview on the web site..."
Spurious? says:
there are currently no plans to put a transcript of the
interview on the site, not because we're mean (honest!) but because it would
be me (Adam) doing it, and I don't have a minidisc player nor the time to
transcribe such a huge wad of speech, so if anyone fancies taking on the
bear that is "The Martin and Jon Interview", you're more than welcome!
If
not, I could give it a go after my exams - in July!!!!

With the Post-Morphis gig rocking the UK and the Spurious? crew thoroughly
enjoying their outing to the Shepherd's Bush Empire to see one of the
classiest d:gigs yet, the delirious? train really is kicking up a gear. As
in a drag car race, spurious.org attempts to match them with a special dnews
containing reviews from all their recent gigs and signed setlists from most
of them, and many more exciting additions to the Spurious? experience.
Merry Christmas.
